Healthier options
While healthier and greener options started making their way on restaurant chains’ menus before the pandemic, they have recently become necessary items to offer. With the pandemic came a shift in people’s preferences when it comes to food that even if they’re patronizing a fast food chain, they still want to make sure that they’re not consuming junk food.
As a result, better options are provided. Nowadays, Harvey’s, Burger King, and A&W just to name a few, already have meat-free burger options.
Off-site selling
Drive-thru sales sky-rocketed during the pandemic and it’s not going to slow down any time soon. In fact, lots of locations are already considering adding such services to their locations. Those without started offering curbside pickups and signed up with several third-party delivery services to make their products more easily available and accessible.
Meal kits
Aside from takeouts, meal kits became a thing as of late as they offer a fresher way to enjoy the food. Montana’s offered grill kits in most branches as stay-at-home orders were in place. Dunkin Donuts also offered DIY donut boxes.
New interpretations of value
With some restaurants relying on their service to makeup for a portion of their prices, they devised new ways to offer better value. Montana’s grill kits offered great convenience and freshness for diners but with Montana’s menu prices, they also had to take their offerings up a notch. This might explain why they now also sell beer and wine with takeouts.
Sustainable packaging
With takeouts and deliveries on the rise, so are single-use packaging. The amount of waste that is expected to be created during the pandemic is staggering so businesses are asked to take steps to curb this other problem. Sustainable packaging is seen as a good solution. KFC is already planning to serve poutine and fried chicken in bamboo buckets by the end of 2020.
