About Netflix
Founded by Reed Hastings and Marc Randolph in 1997, is arguably the world’s largest and most popular subscription-based streaming over-the-top service with more than 139 million subscriptions in the United States, Canada and Mexico, among other countries. In fact, it’s available nearly worldwide except in Syria, China, Iran, North Korea, and Crimea; as of 2019, people in more than 190 countries can access its services.
Netflix has an impressive library of television programs and films, both produced by Netflix and other production companies, mainly in Hollywood. There are several Netflix Original content, too, which are available for online streaming. Such is the range of its programming that it’s known to release more original films and series than any of its competitors including cable and network channels.
Subscribers of the Netflix video-on-demand streaming service can stream the films and television shows in two ways. First, they can log on to the Netflix website via their personal computers. Second, they can watch the shows via the Netflix software on supported platforms including tablets, smartphones, video game consoles, digital media players, and smart televisions.
The Netflix prices differ depending on the service plan chosen by the subscriber. There are three tiers – first, a plan for standard definition on a single device; second, a plan for simultaneous high-definition streaming on two devices; and third, a plan for simultaneous streaming on up to four devices (i.e., Platinum). There’s also 4k streaming on Internet connected devices and other supported platforms.
