2014 Banfi Brunello di Montalcino Sangiovese (750 ml)(13.5% ABV)
Montalcino, Tuscany, Italy. The 2014 Brunello di Montalcino (with 480,000 bottles produced) reveals a pragmatic, no-nonsense approach to this challenging vintage. This vintage is not known for its intensity or thickness, and in fact the wine is mild and composed in personality. 2016 Dominio de Pingus “Psi” Tempranillo/Garnacha (750 ml)(14.0% ABV)
Ribera Del Duero, Cosecha, Spain. This really reminded me of the style of the old-time Ribera del Duero, classical, with some aromas of orange peel, wild herbs and berries. They used grapes from 22 villages from Ribera to showcase the style of this zone—wines with character, nicely integrated oak (they use old vines with some 10% to 12% Garnacha, and the wine matures in oak vats rather than barrique) and a gentle texture with the tannic structure of the zone. This is delicious and really represents the naked character of the place without oak. 300,000 bottles produced. (Review: 93 Points Robert Parker Wine Advocate) (Enclosure: Cork) (14.0% ABV)
