Clos Du Vignes Du Maynes, Beaujolais-Leynes “Haut de Balmont, 2014
The Beaujolais-Leynes parcel is a high altitude vineyard in the extreme northern Beaujolais (hard granite soils) planted to 90+ yr old vines of various old Gamay varietals. Fruit undergoes partial whole cluster fermentation and elevage in old foudres, without any additions, and Julien leaves the finished wines unfined and unfiltered to showcase the layers of fruit. At just 11.5% alcohol, the wines tend to be on the lean side, with crunchy red fruits, great structure and acidity. This is a beaujolais that is great now, but will age for 15+ years.
